The Angel Oak is a live oak that is approximately 1,500 years old. The tree is located on John’s Island just outside of Charleston SC. The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River. Live oaks generally grow out and not up. The Angel Oak stands 65 ft high and with a canopy providing 17,000 square feet of shade.

Charleston SC is one of my favorite cities in the US. I have photographed the Cooper River Bridge also known as Arthur Ravenel, Jr. bridge many times but the images of the bridge at night are my favorite. A signature icon for the Charleston region, these bridge’s towers reach 575 feet into the air and support road deck about 200 feet above the median high tide mark.

Last Thursday I was leaving Chinqua Penn Plantation and saw this amazing sunset behind the Rockingham County Farmer’s Market.
